Recreational Program Descriptions

The Key City FUNdamental Gymnastics Program is a series recreational gymnastics classes, designed for children ages 5-10. Participants will be taught basic FUNdamental movement patterns and skills that are part of physical literacy, transferring into both gymnastics skills, as well as fundamental sport skills. Key City FUNdamental Program focuses on building confidence in the athlete’s ability to perform fundamental movement patterns as well as developing a strong foundation of basic gymnastics skills. Each FUNdamental class will begin with a FUN focus on physical literacy movement skills and games, which will transfer into the traditional gymnastics portion of the FUNdamental class. Each FUNdamental class is streamed according to age of participants.

Children’s progress will be measured using Gymnastics Canada’s CANGYM program.  Every athlete will receive a report card at the end of each session documenting their progress.

Key City’s Gym & Dance is a 1.5 hour class is perfect for participants who want to explore both the world of dance and gymnastics. Key City’s Gym & Dance teaches the fundamentals of gymnastics as well as basic dance & movement patterns.  They will learn a small routine to music which includes jumps, dance, motions and tumbling.

Gym, Dance & Cheer classes will explore choreography, tumbling, basic stunting, and flexibility while having fun!  Each class will include 30 minutes of high energy movement in the dance studio and 1 hour on the traditional gymnastics apparatus (vault, bars, beam, floor, and trampoline). This class is designed for participants who want to experience dance and gymnastics.

Platinum is an advanced recreational program designed for those who have the desire to spend more time doing gymnastics and are willing to challenge themselves.

This program will offer the fun aspect of recreational gymnastics while beginning to learn more advanced skills. This 2-hour class will allow the gymnasts to develop the strength and flexibility to perform these more challenging skills. While this program is offered twice a week, only one day is required.

As a good stepping stone towards competitive gymnastics, this program will build strength and flexibility to further your child’s gymnastics abilities. Acceptance into this program is by coach recommendation only.

Pre-Teen & Teen Girls Gymnastics classes promote the development of healthy, active and confident youth and young adults. We recognize that girls needs differ and change as they mature, therefore our teen gymnastics programs focus on creating a positive, relaxed, and inclusive gymnastics environment. The Teen Girls program focuses on the athlete’s mental and physical development, along with the gymnast’s self-confidence and personal growth as an athlete and a young adult.
