The Key City FUNdamental Gymnastics Program is a series recreational gymnastics classes, designed for children ages 5-10. Participants will be taught basic FUNdamental movement patterns and skills that are part of physical literacy, transferring into both gymnastics skills, as well as fundamental sport skills. Key City FUNdamental Program focuses on building confidence in the athlete’s ability to perform fundamental movement patterns as well as developing a strong foundation of basic gymnastics skills. Each FUNdamental class will begin with a FUN focus on physical literacy movement skills and games, which will transfer into the traditional gymnastics portion of the FUNdamental class. Each FUNdamental class is streamed according to age of participants.
Children’s progress will be measured on a FUNdamental movement passport, as well as a FUNdamental skills book for each gymnastics term. Key City’s FUNdamental Program strongly believes celebrating the personal skill achievements of all gymnasts, big or small, while ensuring a strong gymnastics curriculum is in place. There is no pass or fail in the FUNdamental Program, rather each child can move at their own individualized pace. The skill books vary from beginner gymnastics skills (Stage 1) to intermediate complex gymnastics skills (Stage 7).
At the commencement of the FUNdamental Program, participants will be ready to move into higher level gymnastics classes, as well as having the basic movement skills to transfer into multiple other community sports. The ultimate goal of FUNdamentals is to build a strong foundation of gymnastics skills, as well as providing the confidence for all participants to remain active for life in all aspects of physical activity.
